This shifted the focus back to President Trump and how he would handle the growing protests. And Ben Carson just dropped a bombshell about Trump and the national anthem protests.

Back in 2017, President Trump picked a fight with the NFL when the President said owners should fire any player who spits on the memory of dead veterans by kneeling during the national anthem. The President emerged victorious when NFL ratings tanked as patriotic Americans rejected the America hating NFL players.

After a police officer kneeled on the neck of George Floyd anti-American athletes began falsely claiming that this was the type of police brutality Colin Kaepernick was supposedly protesting when he kneeled during the national anthem. On Monday, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt that he believed Trump would eventually drop his opposition to athletes kneeling during the national anthem.

“Well, I don’t think he has manifested as much animosity in that region lately. And I think we just continue to work with him. He’ll get there,” Carson told Hewitt. Carson again pushed the false claim that athletes were protesting police brutality and that athletes should make sure they let the public know why they are disrespecting the flag.

“A lot of people are under the impression that they’re kneeling because they don’t respect our national anthem or they don’t respect the flag or what it stands for. And in fact, I don’t think that’s the reason that most of them are kneeling. I think most of them are kneeling because you know, they want to protest some brutality in the police forces. They need to make that very clear,” Carson added. “And of course, now that that has been brought to national attention, I’m not sure if it needs to continue.” But there is a fundamental flaw in the logic.

These athletes could protest police brutality in any manner and at any time they wanted. They choose to kneel during the presentation of the flag during the national anthem because what they are really protesting is the flag and the national anthem.
